Dune Rats - The Miffs - Beddy Rays
Until Sunday night, I thought I’d already been to my favourite gig but how wrong I was. Dune Rats proved to be one of the gnarliest nights of my life in all the best ways. I've loved this band for years-first discovering them back in 2019, so when I heard the rowdy Australians were coming to Norwich, I just knew I had to be there.
The support for the night were two equally awesome Aussie bands- The Miffs, followed by Beddy Rays. Their indie garage sound instantly established the mood for the night.
The Dunies crashed into the Waterfront with their raw surf punk sound, bringing all the buzz of the Brisbane surf rock scene to Norwich. The band comprised of lead vocalist Danny Beusaruas, guitarist Brett Jansch and on drums was BC Michaels. Kicking off the night with their tunes ‘LTD’ and ‘6 Pack’, the band immediately incited the crowd, encapsulating exactly what they’re all about- the simplicity of drinking with your mates and just having a good time. A few tracks later was my favourite of their set list, the iconic ‘Scott Green’, its lairy vocals and gnarly guitar riffs sounding even more gritty live. As the chorus hit, the energy in the room was insane, there were multiple people crowd surfing and the band encouraged this- I was lucky enough to be right by the front and lets just say my bruises the next day were proof that this band’s fan base sure love to mosh and it’s impossible to resist joining in. With upcoming shows in London, Bristol and Brighton as their 2023 tour continues, if you missed Dune Rats’ incredible gig in Norwich then I would hugely recommend making the trip for it.
If summer had a soundtrack, Dune Rats would totally write it.

Franz Ferdinand
There was very little messing about, charging through song after song, so that when the band departed after an hour, having knocked seven bells out of the drumkit, it felt like only half that time had passed.

Whilst Dream Nails may be self-proclaimed musical witches, their love for their audience is clear to see.

Eight members, eight different instruments, one cosy pub and the distinct and addictive sound of reggae and soul.

Mogwai
Mogwai
I entered the LCR ready and willing to worship at the altar of their magnificence. Sadly, it didn't quite work out that way. At times this felt less about composition and more akin to ritual.

Suede
Suede erupted onto the stage with a vitality that belied the tour’s halfway mark. At Norwich’s LCR, nostalgia and goth-tinged reinvention collided in a set that proved they’re still gloriously unpredictable.

Sundara Karma are truly one of those must-see bands who simply will not fail to set alight everyone’s indie rock flames.
UK Foo Fighters
UK Foo Fighters
Tribute bands are often hit or miss but it’s safe to say that when the UK Foo Fighters played Norwich’s LCR on Saturday night, it really did feel as though Dave Grohl himself and the Foos were right before our eyes.
