Kiran Leonard, Let's Eat Grandma & Claws // Epic, 15.07.14
Promising, intriguing, entertaining. The youngsters are taking over.
Kiran Leonard, Let's Eat Grandma & Claws // Epic, 15.07.14
Another gig at Epic and another bunch of youngsters on stage.
Things get under way with four piece Claws' rapid indie, equal parts Wedding Present and Mary Chain, with bursts of MBV/Sonic Youth . Josie’s bratty vocals bring to mind Poly Styrene, Ari Up and Cyndi Lauper. With songs like Fairground, this is very promising and Claws is a band to look out for. (7/10)
Let's Eat Grandma is a very young female duo. This is experimental electro pop, taking in elements of Kate Bush, Bjork, The Knife. Talk Talk and Current 93. Far from the complete item but intriguing and I’ll be interested to see how their sound develops. (5/10)
When I saw Kiran Leonard at NS+V last year, he played solo and I thought the songs needed a fuller band sound. Back for his second visit to Norwich, the band is in place and things are all the better for it. Leonard is an entertaining frontman and his sound is an absorbing mix of Pere Ubu, Talking Heads, Wire, Devo and Fad Gadget. (8/10)

David Olusoga - A Gun Through Time
What was most surprising was how witty a speaker Olusoga is, quite a revelation given his austere TV persona. Given the grim journey he was about to take us on, perhaps its purpose was simply a chance to get to know each other before discussing the elephant in the room - or at least the gun on stage - the Maxim gun, known as the Devil's Paintbrush, spewing out 666 bullets a minute.

CONAN, CHAINED TO THE BOTTOM OF THE OCEAN & KULK
The music coming from the Waterfront tonight was so damned heavy I’d be unsurprised if it wasn’t warping the Earth’s gravitational fields.
