The Staves @ Norwich Arts Centre

There is clearly a lot of talent in the Staveley-Taylor family. The Staves are three sisters who can belt out an acapella tune with the best of them; they are also pretty great at playing a wide variety of instruments too. Now, when you think of three sisters in a band with lots of harmonising, you might think the whole thing is going to be a bit twee. But dear reader, The Staves ain’t twee. Not even a little bit.

Jessica, Emily, Camilla and their band silence a sold out NAC within moments of launching into their opening tune Hopeless. The evening showcases their early hits, many of their newer numbers, a cheeky Bombay Bicycle Club cover, and loop pedal harmonies which make Ed Sheeran look like a complete fucking amateur. This was an ace way of spending All Hallows’ Eve.

It was also revealed that Jessica possesses a very special talent. She can sing almost any song over the chords of Make It Holy. We were treated to a bit of S Club 7, Blue, and even a spot of Tom Jones before the song from their 2015 album was played in its entirely.

The Staves are three proper lovely ladies with cracking hair and some bloody good vocal chords. Norwich Arts Centre is a top venue. The combination was always going to be great.

And a word to the wise: always go see the support or you won’t get the in-jokes.
