Let's Eat Grandma

The night was absolutely euphoric ........ it was so fantastically fun and professional

Last night it was my great pleasure to see Let’s Eat Grandma for the second time this year at Epic Studios, and once again our girls did not disappoint. The Norwich born group have had great success since the release of their third album in April this year, and the venue was packed by the time they bounced onto the stage.

To start the night a member of their band performed a few songs from his solo project, Fake Laugh, who plucked out some pretty, moody tunes for us, as well as a cover of a Broadcast song. It was a pleasant start to the night, but soon the real entertainment began.

With a wonderfully curated set list that dipped gracefully between mellow and uppy, the gig was a blur of dancing and singing along. I really honestly could have done a whole extra hour and been perfectly happy. Highlights included the achingly beautiful ‘Two Ribbons’ which never fails to make me cry, and the poppy, angry beat of ‘Hot Pink’. My friends cry of “the Cyberpunk song!” heralded the first few cords to ‘I Really Want to Stay at Your House’, which has been featured in both the video game and the recent animated series. As always, the stage presence of the pair filled the room, with their usual routines of Pattycake and the Macarena daring the crowd to not join in. Jenny leapt off stage to join the crowd during the instrumental of one of the songs, dancing with us until she was needed back on stage.

The night ended with ‘Donnie Darko’, one of their earliest songs, complete with the recorder solo that we all know and love. The night was absolutely euphoric, and despite a small mishap with Rosa chipping her tooth mid song, it was so fantastically fun and professional. Let’s EatGrandma are a perfect treat for the senses, and I know for certain this won’t be the last time I’ll go and see them.
